The Clock Tower is located in the heart of the historic center of Celorico da Beira, next to Praça 5 de Outubro and close to the Church of Santa Maria.
For some authors, this building was built in the 14th/15th centuries, being associated with a barbican, which together with this would constitute the first line of defense of the Castle of Celorico. However, other authors argue that the chronology of construction of this building is much later, having occurred in the 16th/17th centuries, with the function of receiving a public clock at a time when the installation of these equipments takes place in several locations from north to south of the country.
